Delicatessen

The inspiration for ‘Delicatessen' came from a fabulous deli in Fowey, Corwall which stocks a huge collection of exotic foods from all parts of the world.

I bought a selection of spices and foods from which to work. In the background I collaged stamps from different countries, Indian miniature paintings and Chinese characters which reflect the different countries of origin and the variety of colours, tastes and cultures. The labels are painted on parts of the Cornish map, and so the labels tell the imagined history and journeys the bottles and tins may have made to reach your table.
