Birds were the very first thing I ever drew. I had a book called Illustrated book of birds, and would work my way from front to back, drawing every one.
Birds are seen as collectable, beautiful and decorative in many cultures. This series of three paintings alters this idea and imagines the birds collecting letters, French fabrics, collectors cards, text and stamps with which to decorate their beautiful ‘houses'. You will notice how the bars are wide enough for easy exit.. yet the environment is beautiful enough for the bird to want to stay! The 3 bird house pieces feature Lady Amhurst's Pheasant, splendidly decadent at home!
