Works on paper by Kirsten Jones
I am fascinated by collections of objects. My sources are varied but include my own collected artefacts and antiques as well as found objects, displays in museums or shops, pairs of shoes and even washing lines. Objects are painted as a group or individually, often as part of a series of up to 20 paintings. The things I choose to paint often have subtle connections and hidden histories or memories of a particular time or place. This narrative is communicated through my use of text, fragments of paper, stamps and maps, a story to be discovered by the viewer. References within my work are open to interpretation in the same way that a letter read by two people will mean very different things.
